I got an email from Match this morning, “so and so with the cheesy ass user name winked at you.” I’m trying a new thing where I at least read through people’s profiles before I dismiss them, so I clicked on the link.

Yeah, needn’t bother. Dude’s all glamor shotted up, wearing gold chains and a Cosby sweater. No discernible education to be found in profile paragraphs. Deleted.

Then I get an email from him. This is verbatim.

i see you looked at my profile but i just wanted to tell you i will be in (town) in bout a week and i was looking for a friend to hang out with and to have fun i visit there bout 3times a year and thinking bout moving there i would really like to talk to you if i interest you my name is (redacted)

Honestly? The English language has this cool thing now, it’s called punctuation, you should try it out. Capital letters are kind of neat too.

If I remember correctly, I have a bit in my profile about how I’m keen on grammar and spelling, being an editor and all, but apparently people don’t get the subtlety. I’m going to have to go back in and change my profile to read: If you can’t bother with grammar, I can’t bother with you.

Wow. You’re a grammar nazi AND you’re single? I just don’t buy it. Next you’re going to try telling me you have a pet unicorn or something.

Actually, I do have a chupacabra tied up in the back yard, how’d you know?

And I’m not a terribly strict grammar Nazi, but come on! No capital letters or punctuation at all, it’s a disaster.

i admit, my typing sucks, but I at least use spell checker and punctuation.

I’m willing to overlook shoddy typing and spelling mishaps, I really am. I’m not perfect either. But when you’re not even trying … I mean, a girl has to have some standards.

I forget sometimes, since I’m new here, that people might accidentally take me seriously. :)

Your write too have standerds.

yeah, you do need to draw the line somewhere. So if a average looking Joe had great grammar, he would be bumped up?

Jon – I didn’t take you too seriously, but I’m getting slack from my friends for being too picky so I can get touchy about it. Thnx 4 undarstandin. :)

Slinger – Ah, who knows. I’m so picky I’d probably find some reason to write him off. I had one who apologized for misspelling something in a chat, so he totally got points.

Did I mention I hate internet dating?

Everyone lapses a little sometimes but Jeebus H. Christ, on your first communication with someone maybe you could make an effort to show you’re not a dumbass by capitalizing at least. Silly dude.

TOTALLY. KIDDING! he is as dumb as a bag of hammers.
