I don’t actually sit and watch the Food Network very often, because watching people cook is dull as shit, but I’ll flip through and get cooking ideas, or go to the website, because they’ve got a great setup and tons of available recipes.
But today I was flipping through the channels and found that they have this new show, Rescue Chef, which is hosted by a guy named Danny Boome. This is possibly the best casting I’ve ever seen on a television program. This guy is the stereotypical perfect man all wrapped up into one sweet little TV host.
He worked as an au pair, to appeal to those girls with the mothering instinct, and he played semi-professional hockey, for those of us who enjoy some regulated violence. He’s got a British accent, which most American women are suckers for (trust me), and, obviously, he’s a chef.
He comes into your home when you’re stuck on trying to cook something and failing miserably and helps out. He lets you test sauces off the tips of his fingers. He cooks with wine. He’s a perfectly normal bloke, though, not threatening to the men because he’s just like them, only he can cook.
And today he’s making this decadent lamb dish, which looks so tasty I can barely handle it. And he just corrected the woman’s pronunciation of “herb,” which makes me laugh. (Thanks, Eddie Izzard.)
Three greatest words in the King’s English? I think so.
So what’d you do on your lunch break?
